Description

This collaboration with Taourenche Beads, is a real celebration in our hearts!! We are deeply moved by the greatness of his talent, his generosity and his support for Yawinonh through his power of creation.
Taourenche (also written Tahourenché or Tah8renche) means rising sun or daybreak in Wendat. It is also a name associated with certain Picard families in Wendake.
The artist behind this small local business is Alexane Picard, member of the Huron-Wendat Nation of Wendake.
She took up beading in the winter of 2022 as she was looking for an artistic avenue that would allow her to reconnect more with her cultural heritage.
Since then, she has specialized in the creation of both modern and traditional beaded earrings.
Although she is new to the world of beading and only does it part-time, she loves creating art that can be worn by everyone. How lucky are we to collaborate with her!!
Beadwork has been part of our traditions for many moons and it is for us, Aboriginal women, an act of claiming our ancestral root of knowledges. Through art, women transmit the depth of our culture, and weave their place in the our nations heart. It is a method of transmission and teachings for our children and community members. Through this art, we also connect to the richness of our spirituality and our power of creation which connects us to mother earth.
This pair of earrings is a hymn to the creative power of women. In our culture, it is said that the woman carries the universe in her womb. Do we need to say more about this portal of life, and our cyclical connection to the universe?
Women are part of the great mystery of life, through their power of creation. A sacred mystery. Much more than the power to create life and things, it is a vital force. And this vital force resides in our womb.
